All Sorts Of Things Can Damage Your Skin

It looks good and feels good, but too much sun can damage your skin.

The skin is your shop window on the world, so it should always look and feel good. Quite a bit of it is on show all day, every day. The skin continually renews and replaces itself, but it’s still better to avoid doing anything that might cause long term damage. It’s an essential part of natural skin care. Here are just a few of the things that might damage your skin.

The sun

Everyone needs some sun, to ensure adequate supplies of vitamin D, but it possible to have too much of a good thing. Sunlight is responsible for more premature skin aging than anything else. Too much exposure to the sun will result in wrinkles, as a result of collagen breakdown. Collagen is basically the skin’s elastic, and it makes the skin look younger. Also, increased sun exposure may result in skin cancer.

Smoking

Smoking is the second biggest cause of skin damage. Smokers often begin to develop wrinkles around the mouth and also the eyes as young as 30, and even inhaling smoke from others could age the skin. Smoking compromises the body’s stores of vitamin A, which is vital for skin health. In addition, smoking inhibits  the effective absorption of vitamin C, which is another vitamin which is good for the skin.

Smoking can also interfere with collagen production. Collagen production naturally decreases with age, in fact  it’s one of the reasons why wrinkles develop. However, smoking can accelerate this process.

Chlorine

Chlorine in swimming pools is damaging to the skin. Skin can easily become dry and itchy, so if you swim regularly, make sure to take a shower in fresh water on leaving the pool, and use a good natural moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated..

Not enough fluid

The skin needs a certain amount of water in order to stay hydrated, and also to help eliminate waste products from the system. Drink a minimum of two litres of water each day for healthy looking skin.

Too many late nights

The majority of the skin’s natural repair and renewal cycle happens while you’re asleep.  That’s why it’s called beauty sleep. Be sure you obtain enough sleep to allow your skin to repair and renew cells and stay healthy.

Not enough exercise

Exercise boosts the circulation, which means blood and oxygen reach the organs more effectively. The skin is the biggest organ in the body, so if you can improve circulation with exercise the skin will always look fresh and healthy.

Alcohol

In time, alcohol can damage the tiny blood vessels just under the skin’s surface, which will create a permanently flushed appearance. This type of skin damage is irreversible, and is also prematurely aging.

There are many things that can damage the skin, but a healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet will help your skin to look and feel good for longer. And a natural anti-aging cream can also help. Since your skin has to last you a lifetime, you should always treat it with respect.
